About Timmy Sweetcorn Kids’ Club

 “Adventure / Art / Activities”

Kate @ “Timmy Sweetcorn Kids’ Club” runs art and craft based sessions, parties and workshops for toddlers and children alike. This started on a weekly basis in June 2023 at Graves Park Animal Farm and one year later this operates from The Waggon and Horses in Millhouses and in Millhouses Park.Sessions run bi-weekly from The Waggon and Horses pub on Abbeydale Road South, Millhouses, for toddlers and preschoolers. These sessions include woodland play and last 90 minutes. The guide age is 2 plus, as we sit and craft for 40-50 minutes in the first part of the session.
They run almost every Monday and Thursday of the year, in ALL seasons. There is a week off here and there during term time, in order to run holiday sessions that siblings can enjoy. It is also really nice to see Little Sweetcorn’s return who have now started at primary school!
Mondays started in the autumn season of 2023 at the Waggon, followed by Thursdays which started in February 2024.
During the school holidays, primary school children are welcome too. The guide age for holiday sessions is age 2 to 8.

Who is Timmy Sweetcorn? Where does the name come from? Nobody really knows but he is an eccentric explorer who loves to create exciting and engaging activities for children who like their imaginations to be captured.

You are welcome to bring your younger child free of charge, to be in a pram, sling or highchair. There is no charge for your younger child as they don’t take up a seat at the table or any resources. Your ticket is for a child and their craft packs and an adult. Please give me advanced warning if you are bringing a second adult without a second paid on child for allocating spaces.
All sessions are book and pay before, via the booking page online, to secure your place. Places are capped at 12 or 16 per session.
Classes in the school holidays are also on Mondays and Thursdays at the same venue.
We continue to have lot of exciting and varied themes for sessions at Timmy Sweetcorn and always welcome the input of the Sweetcorn community. Old school favourites for early years crop up… weather, vehicles, ocean world and the like, old school classic books and modern classics such as The Snail and the Whale and Red Riding Hood and more unusual themes such as Strawberry Fields and Italian Pizzeria.

So talk me through the sessions… What does a typical 90 minute session look like?

“Adventure / Art / Activities!”

The preschool and holiday sessions are structured in the same way… around a story book and/or theme which will guide fun art and craft activities in the pub with lots of different resources to use and explore.

Half way through the craft section, we will go on an outdoor adventure and discovery walk to the woods. Here we will play games, build and explore, go on treasure hunts, have little tasks to complete and objects to find and observe.

Some days we will extend our crafting fun in this green space, with mark making and the use of natural resources found in the woods. We might even create a collective piece before closing our session with sensory story time… occasional singing and parachutes in the summer.

This outdoor section in the second half of the session will occur in all weathers so please dress appropriately!

Any future plans? Kate @ Timmy Sweetcorn is undergoing level 3 forest school leader training in order to run more involved outdoor sessions in the future. There is no set start date or venue for these at the moment. There is also a more long term plan to run after school art clubs for primary age children.
